A Star Is Born(1954)

Plot:

Esther Blodgett (Judy Garland) goes to Hollywood with dreams of becoming a star. Esther gets a job as a showgirl, and one day when she is working, a drunken man stumbles into the studio she's working in. The man turns out to be the movie star Norman Maine(James Mason). Esther and Norman become good friends, and the friendship begans to blossom into love. Esther and Norman Maine get married and live in Los Angeles.

Norman helps Esther become a great star. Her career soars! Meanwhile Normans career is going downward. This diffrence between their career's strains Esther and Norman's relationship.

As time passes Normans drinking does'nt changed any. In fact he's a little worse than he was before. Norman is so bad that he has to be put into an institution.

One night, Norman gets picked up for drinking and taken to jail, and then to court. In the courtroom the judge reprimands Norman and places him in Esthers custody.

Esther who is at a loss as to what to do, begins the think the only way to save Norman and their marriage is to give up her acting career.

One day Norman overhears Esther and her the head of the studio, Oliver Niles (Charles Bickford) talking. He listens in on their conversation. Esther is telling Oliver that she is going to quit her job as a actress and devote her life to Norman. At that moment out of his love for Esther, Norman makes a decision.

Later he asks Esther to sing to him. Then Norman tells Esther that he's going out to take a swim, Norman walks out into the blue beautiful sea. The sea may have looked beautiful to others, but at that moment it looked uninviting to Norman, because it held his death warrant. Norman walks into the sea and drowns himself.

After Norman's death, Esther feels terrible and sad, until her lifelong friend Danny McGuire (Tom Noonan) convinces her that Norman killed himself for her sake. At a party in wich Esther is the guest of honor, she remembers her dead husband by introducing herself with the words, "Good evening, everyone. This is Mrs. Norman Maine."
